What we need to look at an equity release case

  • Ages of everyone who owns the home
  • Property value, type and tenure
  • Any mortgage or secured debt still on the home
  • How much the client wants, and what it’s for
  • Health and lifestyle, which can improve the terms
  • Means-tested benefits received, and whether family should be involved

Send it through your portal once you’re registered. A specialist is notified on submission.

Equity release for introducers

When equity release may fit

An interest-only mortgage reaching its end

The balance is due and the client wants to stay in the home.

Money for later life

Topping up retirement income, adapting the home, or paying for care.

Helping family now

Gifting a deposit or support while the client is alive to see it used.

Clearing debts in retirement

Removing monthly payments that strain a fixed income, where that suits the client.

Assessment

What we look at

Age and property
The youngest homeowner’s age and the property’s value set how much can be released.
The effect on the estate
How interest builds up over time, and what that means for what the family inherits.
Benefits and tax
Whether releasing money could affect means-tested benefits or the client’s tax position.
The alternatives
Downsizing, a retirement interest-only mortgage, other borrowing, family help or doing nothing.

Introducer questions

Equity release: introducer questions

Who can take out equity release?

Typically homeowners aged 55 or over, with a property that meets the lender’s criteria. The age of the youngest homeowner and the property value set how much can be released.

Does the client keep owning their home?

With a lifetime mortgage, yes. The loan and the interest that builds up are usually repaid from the sale of the home when the last homeowner dies or moves into long-term care.

Will it affect inheritance and benefits?

Yes, it can. Equity release reduces the value of the estate and may affect entitlement to means-tested benefits. The advice covers both, along with the alternatives.

Will you advise my client on anything else?

No. We only advise on the product area you refer, and we never cross-sell. Your client relationship stays yours.
